Google’s latest addition to their search is Stars. Basically this allows people to remember the good results they got for a particular search term. So for instance, a lot of people would search for facebook login when they want to login to facebook. This worked fine when facebook.com was returned in the results near enough to the top. However the problem occurred when Google indexed someone elses site or blog post (like this one) and it came up in someones search for facebook. For the non-techy, this lead to considerable anguish, as they couldn’t login to facebook.

So now with Google’s stars, they can always find facebook.com when searching for facebook.

Google BuzzThe latest buzz (sorry!) on the interweb is Google Buzz (http://buzz.google.com/) is the new all singing and dancing facebook/twitter type thing, from Google.

So while everyone is clamoring to get a piece of the Google Buzz action, spare a thought for the poor Google Wave. Wasn’t that supposed to be the social media’s next best thing? It didn’t stay around for long, is anyone still using it?

And has anyone used Buzz yet?
What are your thoughts?

Since the iPhone exploded on to the mobile scene two years ago, rivals have been scrambling to catch up. Now the one competitor we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: the Google phone. Or, more precisely, phones. Not content with its dominant position as the 800lb gorilla of the internet, Google has turned its hand to producing free software that can be used by any phone manufacturer to power touchscreen devices.

The software, dubbed Android, has been available internationally for more than a year in just a handful of mobiles. But the first Android phones to be sold by Irish networks have only just landed.

So let’s delve into some Androids to see what all the fuss is about.

Google is developing an operating system (OS) for personal computers, in a direct challenge to market leader Microsoft and its Windows system. Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at small, low-cost netbooks, but will eventually be used on PCs as well.

Google said netbooks with Chrome OS could be on sale by the middle of 2010. “Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS,” the firm said in its official blog.

The operating system, which will run on an open source license, was a “natural extension” of its Chrome browser, the firm said.

Wave is designed to be a ground-up reinvention of the way we communicate and collaborate.

Google has given a sneak peek of its latest project – Google Wave. Wave is designed to be a ground-up reinvention of the way we communicate and collaborate. Think instant messaging, but with the open platform potential for plugging in Twitter and other methods of communication, too.

For the moment, Google Wave isn’t a public launch – that’ll be later in the year – but it will be made available to a small number of developers at Google’s Google I/O conference in San Francisco, taking place today.

In a conference call with TechRadar, Lars Rasmussen, Software Engineering Manager, explained about Wave. “It’s a communication and collaboration tool we’ve been working on for a couple of years down in Sydney.

“A Wave is a single shared space where two or more users can exchange real time dialogue, photos, videos, maps and documents in what we call a Wave. Everyone can reply to a Wave, people can come and go and you can drag and drop information from all over the web.”

Google Chrome Browser is here and available for download at: http://www.google.com/chrome. This is Google’s latest battleground with Microsoft who produce the almost ubiquitous Internet Explorer. Personally, I would like to see Google produce a mail client.
